Your Own Domain and Website

How to get started with your own website

Would you like to start your own website, but you have no idea how?

The first thing you need to do is to find a ‘hosting provider’ and rent ‘webspace’. This is a company that rents capacity on a web-server where you can create your website and where visitors can find and access it. There are a few basic things you need to look out for.

  • They should provide a domain (like www.yoursite.com)
  • It should include email (email@yoursite.com)
  • It should include sufficient ‘webspace’ for your files, 1GB and up
  • It should include standard ‘templates’ for simple websites
  • Alternatively ‘WordPress’ for more advanced requirements
  • It should include a web based interface for uploading your files
  • It should include a ‘backup & restore service’ (in case of a hack or mistake)

A good provider is one.com – I have been using one.com for nearly 15 years now, and have not experienced any major issues. These day’s they have made it extremely simple to get started! You can sign up and get a 5$ discount here:
